News: Controversial Vigilante Screensaver Shut Down; Trojan Warning.
Just days after they released their controversial anti-spam screensaver, Lycos Europe has shut down the campaign. The new program, “Make Love Not Spam”, was designed to actively handcuff spam servers by choking their bandwidth connection. Now, Lycos Europe has shut the campaign down for reasons still unclear.

To further compound this juicy controversy, a new Trojan horse virus has popped up, masquerading as the Make Love Not Spam screensaver. Be warned: this Trojan is NOT the MLNS program!

Social bookmarking: Digg

To Digg or not to Digg? That’s a good question. Digg is a popular online social bookmarking site where you can digg or bury–rate an online article, video or podcast thumbs up or thumbs down. Submit what you like for other members to find. The more diggs it receives, the more popular it gets and the higher it comes up on top of the page heap. This is one place where your reactions are valued. Digg lets you visualize the content and participate in a number of ways. That’s the social part of it, aside from letting you find out what your friends are digging. Members can also customize their view to remove categories they are not interested in. But even if you don’t sign in, you can find out what diggers are discovering.

Blogging as a fad

When you decide to blog, don’t just do it because you want to hitch your cart on the bandwagon. If anything, blog because you want to. Blog because you feel the need to express and share your thoughts, emotions and ideas. Blog because you want to contribute something to the new media that is the internet. Blog because you want to be of service to others.

There are bloggers who are over conscious with what is in and what is cool in the world of blogging. Others are more concerned with writing about topics that are sure traffic getters. But if you are comfortable in your own niche and you believe you have a sure and loyal audience to your blog, then there is no reason why you should write about American Idol because it’s in season. Or deviate unnecessarily from your theme by blogging about Britney Spears just because she is No. 1 in Google search.

Blogging should not be seen as fad. Otherwise, it will defeat the very purpose of communication for which it came to be.

The Best Way to Blog

Being anonymous when you blog is one way of having your privacy. Fortunately, technologies are available to help you hide your identity online. You may use a Pseudonym. Just remember not to use pseudonyms that sounds like the real ones that they are based on. You may check the Internet for services that offers free anonymous blog hosting. Be resourceful. Limiting your audience also helps to protect your blog especially if your goal is just to communicate to friends and family. Because of technology , even if you don’t use your real name or personal information in your blog, people can still find out who you are by looking up the WHOIS records for your domain name, so it would be best to register your domain name anonymously.
